So how is your winter?
So how is your winter?
I moved from Oregon to escape the wet.
So far, its been way wetter/warmer than I would have guessed, over all.
No seasonal snow in the Bitterroot!

Kind of a longshot, but...
Hello, I live in Hamilton, Montana, and I have a housemate who is returning to Oregon on Thursday, taking a Greyhound bus out of Missoula.
There is a bus that goes from Hamilton to Missoula, but apparently it doesn't run every day. So she is stuck here in Hamilton.
Is anyone reading this local to Missoula or the Bitterroot, and willing to help out? It would only be an hour or so, and if needed, we could pay.
If it is possible...comment.

Internet advice!
So, where do you get your internet service from, and are you happy with it?

I have Qwest DSL, and it doesn't seem to be working very well currently.

So...how about that weather?
Does anyone have any thoughts on the unseasonable weather?

So, does anyone here actually use this thing?

I just moved from Portland to Hamilton, and am wondering if Livejournal is a good way to find out what is going on. I know its not quite as big here as it is in Portland.

Glacier National Park and West Glacier, MT
Hello there!
I'm going to be be taking the famous Empire Building Train through Montana this summer in July. I booked us a stop over night in West Glacier, MT and I was curious to know if anyone knew of good and fairly inexpensive accommodations in West Glacier, and if anyone knew of any sort of travel company I could use to get myself my boyfriend into the park for a day. I've never been to Montana so I'm really excited to be traveling across y'alls great state and hopefully get out to see Glacier national park.
Anyway I look forward to y'alls suggestions and tips.

Bernice's Bakery and Good Food in Missoula
Hello everyone! I love this community. The You Must Live in Montana If was really, really funny. Best one I've ever seen on the web and I've looked.

I'm writing to ask if anyone would be willing  to look at some of my Montana related writing? :) I lived in Missoula for a while and had to leave, and got all nostalgic about it. So I wrote reviews about Bernice's and Good Food in Missoula, which were my two favorite places to hang out when I was there. If you can, look at them and tell me what you think, tell me if the writing is good, and if it paints a picture in your head....and also tell me if you liked Bernice's and Good Food and share memories with me :) I miss both places very much! Esp the smoothies at Good Food and hanging out in the cafe.

Thanks! Hope everyone is good

Griz-Cat game
Are you a maroon-and-silver Griz or a blue-and-gold Bobcat? Do you know the difference between the Hi-Line and the Five Valleys? Do you identify drivers by the county number on their license plate?

So, Say I Wanna Move to Bozeman...
I was just there a few days ago and I fell in love with Bozeman. I have now made it my life's mission to relocate there as soon as possible. I've talked to a few natives, but word on the street about the job market and rent contradicted.
I should say this is my first out-of-state move...
Anything I need to know? I'm going to speak to some people about transferring to MSU & financial aid options. How's the sociology program? Are there better suited communities to bug than this one? How do I use the internets?!

garage space in Helena?
Odd post I know. we just moved here 2 months ago. currently living in a hotel. (ugh). My jeep, had a tranny gasket crap and die on it. We have nowhere to fix the blessed thing. Tried fixing it on the street it was parked on- that was a no go because we got dust in the seal and of course, that didnt help a danged thing.

I need to borrow garage/warehouse/barn space for a few hours up to a day. Just need somewhere that the dust isnt blowing like mad where we can get my 99 wrangler fixed. Since theres no transmission fluid in it, I need to be able to have a flatbed truck drop it off near a facility that we can work on it in.

Im willing to pay cash for time we need the space. Or barter for labor for a project of yours.

Anyone have space they can lend us for a day? In or near Helena would be great.

Thanks so much.

Howdy all! I currently live in Texas... but I would LOVE to live in Montana!! I visited Missoula briefly once in college, and I just loved it. However, I'm having a hard time finding a job out there... plus I've never moved that far away before! Any suggestions? Thanks!

So I went home to Stevensville (half an hour outside of Missoula) from Washington and it started snowing as soon as I got there... and it didn't stop.
I decided to be obnoxious and leave my dad a present...

I only used the snow on of his jeep.
Yay for winter in MT.

Carter County
Hi all,

I'm working on a family history project and I was wondering if there are any folks here from the Ekalaka area. My Great-great grandparents are buried there and I would love to have a photo or rubbing of their headstones. If there is anyone who would be willing to help me out, I'd happily reimburse you for any costs. Thanks in advance!

I recently moved to Missoula.

Are there any locals lurking around here who could offer me some suggestions?

Mostly at the moment, i'm looking for a place to take my car. It's a Subaru and the front and rear struts need to be replaced. I've heard great things about 4 Seasons Subaru, but for this, i'm hoping to find a local shop instead of a dealership so i can save some money.

I'd also like to know of a good vet. I took my dog to Pryune Vet Hospital, and didn't like it at all.

And last, any suggestions on a good salon?

Rudy Autio, 1926-2007
Ceramic artist, icon left trailblazing legacy

His friends were many, his legacy great, his influence immeasurable. As word spread Wednesday of the death of internationally celebrated ceramic artist Rudy Autio, those who knew him struggled to find words to describe their feelings of loss, and their sense that one of the great artists of this era has passed.

“I'm kind of numbed by it all right now, it's so hard to fathom what we've lost,” said Steve Glueckert, curator of the Missoula Art Museum. “Rudy was a real giant, a genuine superstar in the world of art, and yet such an approachable, nurturing person.”

“Above and beyond his talent, he was a fabulous human being to student ceramicists all over the country, and to the community,” noted Peter Held, a former director of the Holter Museum of Art in Helena, who now serves as curator at the Ceramics Research Center at Arizona State University.

“He was very thoughtful and giving; people just loved him. He is a Missoula icon.”
